Here are some commonly asked questions regarding our sedation dentistry practices:
My child is nervous about going to the dentist. What does your team do to ensure their comfort?
We understand that children may be unsure about going to the dentist for the first time. We ask that parents speak positively about their child’s upcoming appointment if their child asks about it. There is no need to warn them about sharp tools or loud noises. Instead, allow our team to explain our practices to them. We take the time to introduce your child to our office, answering all of their questions about procedures and tools using non-threatening language. Our entire staff provides compassionate care and will welcome your child to our dental practice with a smile.
What can you do for patients who struggle to stay still?
Laughing gas is a great sedative option for patients who struggle to stay still. Laughing gas is actually nitrous oxide is a form of sedation administered through a mask. Patients begin to feel relaxed and comfortable within five minutes of breathing through the mask. This prevents any fidgeting or resistance to the dental procedure. This type of sedation also allows the patient to remain aware throughout the whole procedure, with no loss of bodily autonomy. If a patient requires more sedation options, Dr. Bowersox can prescribe those on a case-by-case basis.
How do you ensure I will not experience pain throughout a procedure?
For procedures that are more invasive, Dr. Bowersox utilizes local anesthetics to completely numb the affected area. You should not feel any pain throughout our procedures. Additionally, Dr. Bowersox follows up all of his procedures with thorough aftercare instructions to ensure that you can manage your discomfort at-home effectively after the numbness subsides. If you experience any prolonged pain or discomfort following treatment at our office, we will schedule you for our earliest available appointment to take another look and ensure you are taken care of.
